The Institute is a leading scientific institution solving the actual tasks in the environmental health, medical ecology, problems of the population protection from the detrimental anthropogenic environmental factors, rationalization of the hygienic conditions of the life of the population of Ukraine.

The specialists of the Institute:
- have obtained the information on the pollution of ambient air, water of the opened sources of water supply, soils at the territories of the cities;
- first in the world the scientific bases for hygienic standardization of chemical carcinogenes were elaborated scientific bases, principles and criteria for sanitary monitoring for electronic, electrotechnical, gas and other domestic machines;
- long-term radiation and hygienic monitoring of the conditions of work of the watch staff working at various objects at the Exclusion Zone of the Chornobyl NNP.
