Museum comprises such departments as archaeology, history, exhibition, "Culture of Yalta of ХІХ - beginning of ХХ century", "Museum of Lesya Ukrayinka", Literary-Memorial House-Museum of K. A. Trenev - P. A. Pavlenko, museum branch - Literary-Memorial House-Museum of Writer M. Z. Biryukov.

Main directions of activity: scientific-research, cultural-educational, exposition, scientific-fund and publishing work, cultural inheritance guard, including conducting of archaeological surveys, acquisition, accounting, storage, exhibiting of mobile sights of material history and culture, including museum objects from valuable metals and stone; storage and exhibiting of weapon; restoration work; distribution and popularization, storage and using of cultural values, and also aesthetic education, organization of the special rest and leisure.
